DC’s ‘prominent gay’ superhero comes out of the phone booth soon

May 21, 2012

It wasn’t long ago that Grant Morrison announced that Batman was gay. At the time I said that my assumption was that he really just wanted to get the editorial ball rolling in that direction, and perhaps he did. Although, according to DC, President Obama helped them “evolve” on the issue: Honchos at Superman’s comic [...]

Spider-Man won’t kill N. Korean soldiers or waterboard a man to save 6b. Loser.

Marvel has officially killed Spider-Man. They did it before with his deal, for all intents and purposes, with the devil. And now they’ve done it again by turning him into such a pacifist clown that his lack of moral clarity actually makes him an accomplice to evil. Correction: Writer Dan Slott’s pacifist-clown take on Spider-Man has made him an accomplice to evil.

Chen Guangcheng: Real-world Daredevil

April 29, 2012

It’s the story of a blind lawyer, one who fights for the rights of those less fortunate. He’s hunted by his powerful enemies. He’s been forced into hiding. His heroism puts his family in danger. He scales massive walls in the middle of the night to secure his freedom. Sounds like we’re talking about the [...]

Batman is not gay, but Grant Morrison is liberal

April 27, 2012

Seemingly out of nowhere, writer Grant Morrison decided he was going to issue a decree: Batman is gay. Morrison is a powerhouse of a comic book writer, so I assume that he thinks he could start the editorial ball rolling in that direction. And that very well could happen, even if he was eventually given [...]

Avengers vs. X-Men: A sad commentary on our culture

April 1, 2012

These days, even non-comic fans are familiar with The Avengers and the X-Men. There was a time when I was a kid, however, that referencing Cyclops…was not cool. Wolverine’s claws were not instantly recognizable. The name Tony Stark was not something Hollywood executives were dropping in connection with possible summer blockbusters. Comics have come a [...]

Iron Man 3 gets the Tom Clancy treatment

March 27, 2012

The word is out: Iron Man 3 is going to have more Tom Clancy and less Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots. Robert Downy Jr. is almost always amazing and so is the character of Iron Man (when he’s done right), so this is probably good news. The problem is, Marvel has a track record of [...]

Barack Obama, Mysterio vs. Paul Ryan, Spider-Man?

February 19, 2012

When was the last time President Obama talked honestly with the American people about our national debt? Currently, it stands at $15,391,735,627,010.18. The main drivers of U.S. debt are entitlement programs (i.e., Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid). The Obama Budget? It doesn’t seriously address any of them. Instead, it’s all smoke and mirrors, the kind [...]

Samuel L. Jackson Admits He’s an Idiot. Nick Fury Now Slightly Dumber.

February 12, 2012

I really wanted to see The Avengers this summer. I guess I still do, but it’s really hard when Mark Ruffalo (i.e., the Hulk) goes out of his way to lecture us on oil pipelines, and now Samuel L. Jackson (i.e., Nick Fury) goes around telling moviegoers he only voted for Barack Obama because he’s [...]

The Dark Knight Rises: Catwoman “Occupies” Wayne Manor?

December 19, 2011

The Dark Knight Rises trailer is out. John Nolte and Hotair may have beaten me to the coverage, but anyone who’s read this blog regularly knows that I’ve covered the Christopher Nolan conservative question and Batman at length. And, given Cat Woman’s “Occupy Wall Street” flavored whisper into Bruce Wayne’s ear, there are still plenty [...]

Grant Morrison vs. Tim Tebow: Rolling Stone’s Metaphysical Double Standard?

November 30, 2011

“I’m still trying to not sound like an insane person,” says Grant Morrison in his recent interview with Rolling Stone’s Brian Hiatt. One: The article, The Psychedelic Superhero, is amazing. Two: If you don’t know who Grant Morrison is, he’s a comic book writer who happens to be much more than a comic book writer—and [...]
