Burger King recently started a limited-market promotion of the Proud Whopper, which included the underlying message “We’re all the same inside.” It was supposed to be a show of support for San Francisco’s gay community, but it could also serve as Burger King’s stealth pro-life campaign. Since Burger King employee Victoria Duran of Columbus, Ohio seems to think that the unborn are just a “clump of cells,” the Proud Burger message can teach her that we’re all just bigger “clumps of cells.”
Ms. Duran is composed of many more cells than an unborn child, but no one is advocating that we kill her. It seems odd that she would a.) discriminate against someone with less cells than she, and b.) resort to assault and battery on the streets of Columbus because other clumps of cells are exercising their First Amendment rights.
Created Equal films captured it all on tape.
As Hotair’s Ed Morrisey observes, “It’s amusing in one respect to see someone so passionately engaged in exposing her ignorance of human biology while attempting to lecture someone else about it, as well as her ignorance on basic American civics.”
As humorous as it is, it’s also rather frightening. While Ms. Duran ultimately has little power to strip social conservatives of their rights, there are plenty of “Durans” out there who would love to see that happen. Sometimes they expose themselves (literally) in places like Argentina when they assault Catholic men, or sometimes such bigotry rears its head when guys like Marvel Comics writer Dan Slott tells Hobby Lobby and its Christian supporters they should go to “Christ-land.”
Let us revisit Ms. Duran’s actual speech. While it is hardly eloquent, the intellectual DNA is similar among “clumps of cells” who categorize themselves as liberal.
“This is absolute lying there, fucking dipship. That is not what a fetus looks like, okay? It’s a clump of cells at twelve weeks. It does not look like that. It’s a clump of mother fucking cells. No hands are shown at that time. You so white privilege racist fucking male that doesn’t stand for women’s rights. Get the fuck out of her, fucking dipshit. And get that camera out of my face, either. Fuckwit! … Fuck you. Fuckwit. You are fucking white male privilege assholes. What you are is a racist motherfucker as well. How dare you fucking do this kind of shit, asshole. … You fucking sexist misogynist motherfuckers. That is all you are! You don’t give a shit about women! You don’t give a shit about life! All you are is a bunch of assholes. All you are a bunch … No uterus, no right to talk about it! Understand me, motherfucker? … Your signs deserve to get fucked up!
The thought police are out in full force. Race? Class? Gender? It’s all there. “Privileged…white…males” only have free speech until that speech upsets women like Ms. Duran. Then it’s gone. Regardless, it seems odd that Ms. Duran would accuse a young man from Created Equal of being racist, when it is women like Ms. Duran that have arguably cheered on black genocide via abortion for decades.
What if science told us that certain DNA sequences are likely to result in a gay or lesbian child? Would Ms. Duran support abortion then? Does she support forced abortions in China? Burger King’s motto used to be “Your way, right away,” but in Ms. Duran’s world it’s “My way, right away. Understand me, punk?”
We used to live by the old saying: “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” Today, a bunch of totalitarian thug wannabes don’t even give the phrase lip service — they just get in your face, destroy your property and threaten you with violence.
At the end of the day, it is not the Victoria Durans of the world who are the most dangerous to society as a whole. Instead, we must primarily concern ourselves with influential individuals sowing seeds of hate into the fertile minds of the young. Her consciousness is filled with weeds, but it is the farmer who planted them there that we should be concerned about.
And with that, I will leave you with this: Even The Burger King Kids Club was once just a “clump of cartoon cells.”

You have it first hand from the source, folks. That’s the “tolerance” of Ms. Duran’s worldview.

I don’t take kindly to people calling me sexist, Jay. Sexist is yet another word that you use to shut down debate. It’s one of those words like “racism” and “homophobia:” it’s used so much that it’s lost any meeting and when real instances of such happened, people like scoff and say, “so what?”

Ironically, there’s a Burger King near my home with a sign asking friendly people to apply….I think Ms. Duran may want to follow the crux of her employer’s message from the “Pride Whopper”, no one deserves mistreatment solely because they are different than you. That includes the young guy she’s berating.
I’ve seen a few prolife rallies in passing, in three different municipalities, and there were quite a few women participants, I wonder what the stats on that are. Ms. Duran really locked on to the “white male” line.
In odd circumstances of switching highschools after 9th grade and my chosen majors in college, I’ve actually never had a biology class in my life; I’ll have to google “clump of cells” to see if that’s a real term 🙂
Calling someone “white” is the new way to shut down debate. It’s sort of synonymous with “racist” to these people. One you throw out the “you’re white!” card, then we’re supposed to huddle up into a ball in the corner and sob, “It’s true! Nothing I say has legitimacy.” That actually works on some guys, but not on any of the guys I hang around with.
As you stated in the piece with black genocide, coupled with Truth’s account; this issue goes beyond color as a debate point. The thing is, Ms Duran wasn’t about debate, she was about throwing a temper tantrum and shutting the young man down…..it was obvious who was trying to control who in that video.
She’s a bully. She’s the female Bluto and she picked on the high school intern Christian kid like he was Popeye before eating his spinach. Would she have pulled that exact same stunt if one of us were standing there? I doubt it. Look at the size differential between Ms. Duran and that kid (who is patiently standing there taking her abuse). She lashed out at him partly because she’s a loose canon, but also because she felt she could get away with it. I’m glad those kids had a video camera.

Some folks like to think that this whole issue is a religions one. While religious folk generally are portrayed as making it one (and often do), at it’s heart, it’s far more philosophical than religious.

When Ms. Duran reads a book, does she say that Chapter 1 is less important than Chapter 10? The “book” of each individual’s life does not start at Chapter 10 — it starts as soon as the co-authors write the first word. And, whether they like it or not, that book is alive. Once it’s started, in many ways it starts to write itself. We can debate what it means to end that story as it’s just getting started, but it’s still a significant act.
I am rather open on my stance on this matter, I support the right to life. “a clump of cells” wow this person does not really understand. My wife and I lost a child around 12 weeks, it is a lot more than a clump of cells. My wife and I also lost a child later in the term and I can tell you it was much more than a clump of cells. Pulling my unborn child out of the toilet is one of the saddest things I have ever had to do (sorry I am not trying to be gross). I still think about our loss frequently, but we are happy to have had one child so far. I do not know why they try to spin this as a form of male control because many women support right to life as well. “Male privilege”” that is another flaw in the system, it takes two to have a child and it seems our society is removing the importance of the male in the equation. I challenge anyone to look at the criminal statistics and you will see a trend of broken families and nonexistent fathers. We have a system now that we can give the child away if we do not want them so why do we have to kill them?

Selective censorship based on selective tolerance. Granted the right of free speech only goes so far, but it does not appear that this group did anything to garner that response.
Thank you for sharing your story, Truth. I’m extremely happy that you have been blessed with a child, and have no doubt that the children you lost (to this plane of existence) are safe and waiting for you on the other side.

This is a very interesting point. One line of feminist thought for years has essentially been, “You don’t need a man. You can raise a child on your own, etc.” Well, as you point out, the track record for single moms is abundantly clear. That’s not to say single mothers or fathers can’t love their child…or raise an upstanding citizen, but it’s obvious that a healthy nuclear family is the ideal. We should always strive to have children in a loving home with their biological parents.
I think that divorcing (no pun intended) child-rearing from the self-evident truth that a mother and father should be there for their child is not entirely an accident. Doing so allows women like Ms. Duran to attack men as if they have “no right” to talk about the issue. Well, too bad. We are going to talk — and you won’t shut us up.

I am pro-choice. There are always radicals in every movement, people who believe in something but don’t fully understand why and/or arent well versed in the proper terms. This woman went a step too far, that is true, there is no denying that, but the way all of you are behaving in the comments shows your sexism and patriarchal, misguided belief system. No, not all men are misogynists, and everyone deserves their own opinion on important political debates, but that alos means that not all feminists and pro-choicers believe in what she does or acts the way she does. You are taking one woman who is acting as an extreme and assigning her behaviors to an entire movement, acting almost as foolishly as she did. It looks like you just did what you accused others of “assigning her behaviors to an entire movement”.
One would think that women like Jay would pause and think, “Hmmm, maybe this guy is happily married in a healthy relationship with his wife, so instead of just going off with ‘sexist’ accusations I should just try to have a civil discussion. Maybe his mom is still alive and he treats her with the utmost respect. Maybe he has a sister who he adores.” I guess not.
Sadly my mother has passed; I held her hand in the hospital for the last 36 hours of her life. I promised her I would never let her pass away alone. Other family members were there, but they went home at night to sleep but I kept my promise and stayed at her side. I have nothing but love and respect for my mother for she was an amazing woman. My mother was a great example of kindness and determination. My mother packed me and my brothers up from an abusive situation and we left in the middle of the night, we lived with her parents in a one bedroom apartment (all 5 of us) while she went to school (while working a full time job as well) so that she could get a better job and take care of us. After a few years of saving and being very poor we were able to get a new place that was better and eventually she met a great man that became my stepfather. He was there for my mother no matter how ill she was (my mother was sick for nearly the last 9 years of her life and the doctors could not figure out what the main issue was). The last year of my mother’s life she was bedridden and yet she still mustered the strength to see my newborn son in the hospital. My mother was and still is a great person and inspiration.
I also want to add that I paid my mothers house payments so that my stepfather could give her the medical attention that she needed.
But what do I know — I am a “misogynist”.
Jay are you pro-choice when it comes to a man’s right to chose? Should a man have a right to opt out of parenthood after conception? Should a man have too pay child support for a baby he does not want? And don’t tell me a man should keep his pants on. That could apply to women as well.
Where is Burger King’s press release or statement on this incident?

Exactly. Their silence begins to become acceptance of this kind of behavior, especially if the employee is not disciplined up to and including dismissal.
I took our little bot to his first baseball game last night (11 innings). He had a great time. They had fireworks after the game too!
I think that this is the inevitable result of the ongoing slew of ad-hominem attacks that have been coming from the left (and, admittedly, to some degree from the right as well). There’s a big difference, though, and that is that while our side tends to see the lefties as pathetic clowns (or children) with a lack of critical thinking ability- their side tends to see our side as actually DANGEROUS- a direct threat to them in some way. If you are fed a steady diet of “the right wing is dangerous and a threat to your liberties” then it is inevitable that you will attack them when you see them (instead of attempting to engage them in debate, or assume that they have the ability to be civil to you at all). It’s the same technique that has been used again and again throughout history- from Hitler to Stalin to Pol Pot- you de-humanize your enemy and then destroy him (and now I have to include the disclaimer that “no- of COURSE I am not comparing people on the left to the “Nazis” or mass murderers…just stating that you are using the same PR tactics :-))
If you believe that the “enemy” is a direct threat then that is the quickest path to “de-humanizing” them that there is available (again- Nazis/Jews)…hence we, on the right, are painted a “threat” to the left…whereas we tend to paint them more with the “stupid, sad, and pathetic clowns” brush. While both views are “de-humanizing”- the truth is that only one leads to the type of aggression that we see demonstrated here: you are more likely to attempt to engage a clown in debate than you are a barbarian who is directly threatening you 🙂 (imagine if Hitler had just painted the Jews as ‘silly, misguided people lacking critical thinking skills…a lot tougher to gas those :-)).
So here are my examples:
How do you see the following people characterized in the right wing press? Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, just about everyone from MSNBC. Do we ever suggest that these people are somehow “threatening”? That their ideas will lead to “violence” against us in any way, shape, or form? That Harry Reid is “oppressing” us and that if we don’t ACT NOW the evil, malevolent powers of the Reid, Pelosi, Sheila Jackson Lee powerhouse will overwhelm our meager defenses and ultimately destroy us and all of our cherished rights?
Of course we don’t. We don’t give them enough intellectual credit to believe that.
Now- how do they react to Limbaugh? Bachmann? Palin? Fox News? Here’s a fun trick- google how many times words synonymous with “dangerous” or “treasonous” or “oppress” are used in connection with these folks (vs. the clowns above). You’ll find MUCH more militaristic, violent jingoism used with regards to conservatives than liberals. Why? Because to them we are not simply “clowns” but actually some sort of malevolent force that threatens their very existence.
See- you’re not likely to attack a clown. No one is running up to Chris Matthews on the street and screaming in his face about moral idiocy or rank historical stupidity, etc. No one ran down to the Occupy Wall Street crowd and tried to pick fist fights with them (again- because we mostly saw them as pitiful clowns…which they turned out to be in the end. Who knew?)…
…but just TRY to hold a pro life rally and, because the left doesn’t see us as “pitiful clowns” but are instead taught to see us as dangerous aggressors, you are attacked.
And that is the source of this woman’s outrage. For her this group wasn’t merely a bunch of “clowns” that are to be ignored or, at worst, scoffed at with eye rolling sarcasm- these peaceful pro-life protestors are actually a direct THREAT to her way of life. If you feed off of the kind of militaristic crap that you read on left wing blogs for long enough then you are bound to eventually react to this perceived “threat”- usually with violence of your own (because elimination of threats is completely morally justifiable…unless you are Israel, apparently).
What amazes me is that even now- no one in the comments, nor in the blog post itself, is saying “this woman represents the massive threat against our way of life from the left”. Instead what I am reading is “bad teeth, poor critical thinking skills, thicker-than-two-short-planks (as the Brits would say)”. She is a clown to us, not a threat…and with clowns you simply laugh and move on 🙂

I’ve made very similar observations over the years, although I must add that there’s a difference between the average person on the street who says they’re “liberal” and liberalism’s leading intellectuals — who are after power. There are individuals who are just naive, quixotic, etc. … and then there are individuals who crave the opportunity to use society as their own personal petri dish. Certain individuals are clownish, but I take the ideology very seriously.
As I said in the piece: “Her consciousness is filled with weeds, but it is the farmer who planted them there that we should be concerned about.” She’s harmless in the sense that I don’t see her controlling the levers of power any time soon… However, she’s dangerous on a different level; she’s helping to set the stage for a very different (i.e., dark) America to unfold “x” years down the line.
I always laugh at “white privilege” arguments and I laugh at the notion that I’m somehow “privileged” because I happen to be a straight white guy, as I’ve mentioned before. That couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m not privileged and I never have been. I come from a working class background, and everything I have, I’ve had to work hard to get. It’s not always been easy for me, especially due to my Asperger’s. It’s a pathetic “argument” that’s used by progressives to shut down debate.
Hi. I truly believe that Victoria is blind. She cannot/will not see the truth. The truth is too vile for her to fathom without the grace and healing of our Lord Jesus Christ. I hear a lot of pain and denial in her screaming and cussing. Those images touched a nerve. That she wants to believe that it’s not a baby at 12 weeks, leads me to ponder if she might be post-abortive and had her abortion at @ 12 weeks. They tell the women in these clinics it’s only a “clump of cells” at any time in an unborn human being’s existence. They she was so upset at the abortion victim photography suggests a defensive posture, that she still has a part of her that finds abortion wrong, and it tears her up (inwardly horrified). The photos were too much got her to bear. The truth right now is too much to bear. In a way, weird as it may sound, she actually might still have a working conscience.

Even in my most “pro-choice” days, I made sure I never got into an argument with a pro-lifer.
Ironically, it was at the 1989 “March for Women’s Lives” in D.C. that my “pro-choice” activism abruptly ended. God works in mysterious ways. Another story for another day.

Wonder what became of the BK feminist. Methinks a “gender studies” or “feminist studies” grad who ultimately had to settle to work at Burger King (not that there’s anything wrong with working in fast food) due to not having a marketable degree–and most likely being fired for the assault committed and her eventual arrest in the video.
